History

Queensview Nursery School and Kindergarten is chartered and registered by the New York State Department of Education. The nursery school opened in February 1951. The kindergarten program was established in 1959. Built specifically for use as a preschool, the physical plant is ideal. Over the years it has earned an impressive reputation in the area, attracting children from distant parts of Queens as well as the immediate neighborhood.

Universal Pre-K ( UPK )

Universal Pre-K!Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) is part of New York State educational reform legislation enacted in 1997. The UPK program calls for two and one half-hours of early childhood education per day for every four-year old, to be implemented by the Year 2002, in school districts that choose to participate. This recognizes the critical importance of early learning for all children, and the role of child care, Head Start and family child care as part of an early education system.

Queensview Nursery School & Kindergarten is proud to take part in the Universal Pre-K (UPK) program. Please feel free to call us for more information.

Our 50th Anniversary Celebration

Did you know that May 20, 2001 was declared Queensview Nursery and Kindergarten Day by Queens Borough President, Claire Shulman? A 50th Anniversary celebration was held at the Crystal Palace. It was a joyous celebration of a school done right. Over 200 students, parents and alumni came together to eat, drink and be merry. The entire staff was there as well as several teachers who had previously worked at QVN&K.

The party was the unveiling of the 50th Anniversary Journal. While every year the yearbook is a terrific memento of your child's year, this year the book was extra special. It contained letters and a Declaration of Honor from Queens Borough President Claire Shulman, City Council Speaker Peter Vallone, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Senator Charles Schumer, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

All in all, it was a lively party with parents and children all laughing, dancing, eating and celebrating 50 wonderful years of a very special, one-of-a-kind place.
